Color trends come and go with every year, season, and sometimes, even every month. That can make it hard to participate in these trends in a space like the home, which most of us want to be rather steady, consistent, and familiar. However, if you’re someone who likes to follow the trends and keep your home feeling fresh and up to date, it can be fun to incorporate trending colors into your design—but not if they’re going to feel obsolete in a matter of months. That’s why, when curating the 2026 Colormix Trend Forecast, the Sherwin-Williams team considered staying power and the evolution of color trends.
“Rather than organizing by trend themes, our Trendsight Team deconstructed well-loved tones and explored their spectrum—going softer, deeper, or more nuanced to reflect how colors are actually being lived with,” says Emily Kantz, Sherwin-Williams’ color marketing manager. “Each palette emerged from tracking shifts in consumer behavior, design, and emotional needs. The result: four distinct color families that offer versatility, longevity, and deeper storytelling.”
The 2026 Colormix Trend Forecast consists of four distinct color palettes—Frosted Tints, Sunbaked Hues, Restorative Darks, and Foundational Neutrals—each containing 12 paint colors, Find out more about the colors that the brand expects to shape 2026 and beyond.

The Frosted Tints palette is filled with cool, refreshing shades that look the way a breath mint tastes—or like how a dive in a pool feels. “The Frosted Tints palette evokes a sense of modern coastal charm and offers a fresh take on industrial design,” says Kantz.
Kantz’s standout shades from this palette are Halcyon Green and Modern Lavender. Halcyon Green, which is a muted green with blue-grey undertones, would bring a fresh yet calming look to kitchen cabinetry. Modern Lavender is a dusty purple that’s just a dial or two past grey. “[This shade] offers a sophisticated alternative to blue, especially when paired with traditional elements to create a refreshed, updated aesthetic to a dining room,” Kantz says.
Also in the Frosted Tints palette, you’ll find the aqua blue shade Watery, the deeper-yet-still-soft blue shade Solitude, and Celery, a muted yellow-green which stands out from the rest, while somehow still fitting right in.

Turning to the other side of the spectrum, the Sunbaked Hues palette is filled with warm reds, orangey browns, soft pinks, and muted yellows.
“In the Sunbaked Hues palette, rich terracotta is making a strong statement for 2026,” Kantz says. Pennywise, which nails that perfect terracotta middle ground between brown and orange, “evokes the cozy warmth of a desert retreat,” Kantz explains. She also calls out the shade Sundew, a rich warm beige that she says creates an inviting and “subtly elegant atmosphere,” perfect for a cozy living room.
Kantz also notes how the Sunbaked Hues palette spans a wide stylistic range, from mid-century modern and desert organic to restorative retro aesthetics.

While light and bright shades can be one person’s definition of calming colors, deep, rich hues can be another’s. The Restorative Darks palette is the latter. It offers an array of richly pigmented shades that span the color spectrum, from a bronzey yellow to plum-like purple.
Kantz names Rojo Marron the showstopper shade from this palette. It’s a deep, red-tinted brown that brings new life to the earthy color. “Its application in a bedroom creates a serene, comforting environment that invites relaxation,” she says.
The palette overall can provide high-drama impact to any space, Kantz explains, allowing it to seamlessly fit into both contemporary spaces and art-deco inspired traditional interiors.
Foundational Neutrals

For those who like to stick to a more neutral color palette that whispers more than it screams, Foundational Neutrals is for you. In this palette, you get a timeless white (White Snow), several shades of beige, and multiple variations of grey and brown.
While this palette stays within a more comfortable color range, it does include a couple more daring, statement-making shades, like Inkwell, a deep blue shade that’s almost black, and Clove, a rich chocolate brown hue.
“Foundational Neutrals provide a versatile base, adaptable to everything from layered neutral maximalism to clean, minimalist Scandinavian design,” Kantz says.
