An interior design pro has shared her top tips for elevating more compact homes.

JJ Hornig (@jjhornig), founder of Roxy Rentals, spoke exclusively to The U.S. Sun about how to make the most of a limited space.
The interior professional explained that a small room doesn’t have to feel crowded or cramped.
Through her rental company, Hornig works to elevate small spaces into spacious abodes.
She joked that her years of personal experience living in tiny city apartments helped to make her an expert on the matter.
Hornig broke down the easy tricks that can help make a room feel and look bigger.
WALLPAPER ON THE CEILING
For her first tip, she recommended drawing attention to the room’s ceiling.
“When making a space look larger or adding a new level of style, one big power play is drawing the eyes up,” Hornig explained.
“A new and exciting way to do that is to wallpaper your ceiling in some rooms, think bedroom, living room.
“Not only is it a wow-worthy conversation starter, but it will instantly transform a room.”
EMBRACE VERTICAL SPACE
Hornig recommended taking advantage of vertical space in your home.
She pointed out that this will allow you to maximize your storage and display opportunities.
The expert suggested investing in wall-mounted shelves, bookcases, and floating cabinets to “free up valuable floor space and draw the eye upward, making the room feel taller.”
“Consider tall furniture pieces like floor-to-ceiling drapes or tall dressers to create the illusion of height and add drama to the space,” she advised.
MULTI-FUNCTIONAL FURNITURE
Hornig highlighted the importance of being mindful of what you add to your space.
She recommended investing in items that can help elevate your space in many different ways.

“Opt for multi-functional furniture pieces that serve more than one purpose, like furniture with built-in storage solutions,” she said.
Hornig gave the example of “a stylish storage ottoman” which she said “can provide seating and double as extra storage and a place to hide clutter.”
COLOR PALETTE
The professional suggested opting for a “light and airy palette with pops of color.”
“Soft neutrals like white, beige, and light gray reflect light and make the room brighter and more open,” she explained.
To incorporate pops of color and texture, Hornig recommended adding accent pieces to your room.
“Throw pillows, rugs, and artwork add depth and visual interest to the space without overwhelming it,” she said.

For her final recommendation, Hornig revealed an “instant upgrade” you can make in any room.
“Give your place an elevated feel with art you’d expect to find in a high-end home or hotel without the high price tag,” she said.
