With unlimited tips and tricks shared on the internet and social media, it can be easy to fall victim to different trends that’s become popular online.

If you’re looking to redecorate or renovate your home, you might have found yourself scrolling through Pinterest or looking through interior design magazines to find inspiration and keep yourself updated on current design trends, such as colours, furnishings, or other decorative features.

While some design trends might seem timeless and perfect when you first come across them, as will other trends, not all of them will age well.

To save you from falling for trends that you’ll come to regret, interior designer Bee has gone all out when sharing her recommendations of what not to do when renovating or redesigning your home – and she claims you’ll come to dislike them within a couple of years.

“These are some of the worst interior design choices that you’re gonna regret in two years with no explanation,” she said at the start of her TikTok video.

Wall panelling

While wall panelling is far from a new trend, having been traced back to Greek and Roman times for practical reasons, it’s now mainly added to a home soley for decorative purposes. However, Bee is not a fan – at least not if you’re wanting to add it to a new build home.

“Wall pannelling in new builds. Yes, even this type,” Bee said, showing an alternative panelling as the whole wall is covered in smaller panelling from floor to celing.

“It had its moment three years ago, let it go,” she urged viewers.

LED details

LED light strips have gained tremendous popularity on TikTok, with billions of views on some videos. However, several interior designers have claimed these lights can degrade the overall aesthetic of a space if not placed thoughtfully.

“LED coving. LED up your stairs. LED behind your television,” she said as her tone expressed her dislike over the trend.

Instead, consider adding ambient, layered lighting into your space in the form of floor, wall, and ceiling lamps. You can also use coloured light bulbs to achieve an alternative that adds depth and character to your home.

Black bathroom fixings

Next up on Bee’s list of things to avoid were black bathroom fixings. While she didn’t express why she disliked them, she’s not the only person who has warned against them.

While the black tones might look more modern and stylish than your classic steel fixings, they often don’t stay black for long as limescale and other bathroom stains are quick to show up.

So unless you want to spend hours scrubbing them clean every week, it’s better to opt for a different colour on your bathroom fixings.

Cheap interior doors

As she showed a photo of a white panelled door inside what appears to be a dining room, Bee simply said that she didn’t like ‘cheap interior doors’.

While she didn’t explain why she wasn’t a fan of these, cheap interior doors are often hollow and are filled with a rigid frame made out of wood or metal that’s filled with a supportive structure of cardboard or wood. Meanwhile, more expensive doors are often made from solid wood, which makes them more durable and resiliant in the long run, according to Wickes.

Sliding doors instead of pocket doors

Next up on her list, Bee said: “Using interior sliding systems like this instead of pocket doors.”

In a photo, she showed the difference between sliding ‘barn’ doors and sliding pocket doors, which are designed to slide into the wall it’s attached to. allowing it to take up less space in your home and not be visible when it’s open.

While the different types of doors do the same thing, pocket doors allow you to save space and make your home look more ‘clean’ when the door is open.

Matching wood furniture

While wood furniture have been around for centuries and will never get out of style, Bee is urging people to make sure your wooden furniture look too much alike.

“Matching all of your wood finishes so that you have a perfectly beige, bland, basic space,” Bee argued.

Instead, while you can still make sure your wooden furniture matches your home, try to make sure the wood tones aren’t too alike.

Chevron or herringbone floors

Next up, Bee said: “Chevron or herringbone floors in tiny, tiny spaces.”

Herringbone and chevron flooring has recently gained more popularity in recent years, they have been around for centuries and remain a timeless choice for your home.

While these floorings can add a unique pattern to your rooms, it’s important to consider the ways to place them. While ‘busy’ patterns can make a room look smaller, especially if the room is already on the smaller side, you can easily combat this by choosing lighter colours, according to Floor Surgeon.

Rainfall showers

Finally on her list, Bee said: “Women, come to the front. Overhead rainfall shower fixings.”

While rainfall showers have become more popular recently, as it’s an affordable way to make your showers feel like they belong in a spa, not everyone is a fan of them as they don’t provide as much water pressure as a normal shower head.

Taking to the comments, several people share their thoughts on Bee’s list, with many agreeing on most points she made.

“I fix and flip houses. 100% worst thing on this list besides the barn doors is rain fall showers. Absolutely hate them,” one person said, while another person wrote: “As someone who got black bathroom fixings four and a half years ago, facts.”

Meanwhile another person said: “Do what you want with your space.”
