Popular home goods chain should survive bankruptcy as it closes 31 stores

The major home decor chain At Home is emerging from bankruptcy after a federal court approved the company’s restructuring plan.

Back in June, the Texas-based retailer filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy due to “broader economic and retail-specific market pressures” — including rising interest rates, inflation and increased tariffs, according to court documents.

On Oct. 1 the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware confirmed At Home’s plan of reorganization, which will allow the chain to reemerge from bankruptcy and continue operations “in the coming weeks,” a statement from the company explains.

“We are pleased to have reached this important milestone in our efforts to position At Home for future success,” Chief Executive Officer of At Home Brad Weston said in the statement. “Thanks to the hard work of our team over the last few months, we have now accomplished all that we set out to achieve at the beginning of this process.”

Under the terms of the plan, At Home is expected to eliminate all of its nearly $2 billion in debt and have access to roughly $500 million under an asset-based loan.

This plan still means that At Home will be shuttering 31 of its 200 stores as part of a “fully optimized store fleet,” the company explained.
